Armenia Regional Development Project
DFID started implementing the Armenia Regional Development Project (ARDEP) in 2003 under the multilateral framework for the reduction of poverty in Armenia provided by the Armenian Government’s poverty reduction strategy. The aim is for Tavush and Gegharkunik regional administrations to increase their capacity to develop and implement poverty reduction programmes and to influence national policy on the regions.
The first phase of ARDEP ended with the completion of Regional Development Programmes (RDPs) for Tavush and Gegharkunik, which were launched by the Armenian Government in February 2005.
Under the second phase of the project, DFID is providing to the Armenian Government a further £2 million (£1 million per marz) to act as seed money for implementation of the RDPs.
Currently the project is in the 3rd phase. The development plans are in the processes of review and revision for the next strategic period of 2008-2010. Concurrently the regional administrations are using their experience of pro-poor programme implementation to contribute to revision of the PRSP and to influence national policy on regional development, including financing aspects.
