The challenge of Europe (23/06/2009)
Minister for Europe Glenys Kinnock spoke about the challenges Europe faces during a speech at Chatham House on Thursday 18 June.
She focused on three particular challenges facing Europe: securing economic recovery; tackling climate change, and tackling global poverty and conflict. She said:
'It is very clear that the EU today faces some of its toughest challenges. But we live in an age where our interests, in terms of the economy, the environment, security, are more bound up than ever with the rest of the world. It follows that the role and importance of the EU has never been greater.'
