Representatives of 24 local NGOs that have been partnering with the British Embassy from April 2008 to March 2009  gathered in the Children’s gallery on June 11 at a reception hosted by HMA Charles Lonsdale.

The NGOs have been or currently are implementing successful programs in 2008-2009 FY in spheres of human rights, democracy, conflict prevention, climate change and European integration with the support from the British Embassy.

The lively event also became a great networking opportunity for NGOs working in the same field. They had a chance to exchange information and offer their project products to others active in the field. The local media had opportunity to talk to the projects beneficiaries and explore the impact that Embassy funded projects had in Armenia.

“The projects are important to us for their substance, of course, but also because they give us great opportunities to meet and support civil society organisations.  The development of an active and independent civil society is an essential part of any country.  We strongly value the work you do and the chance to work with you”, said HMA Charles Lonsdale at the opening speech.

Projects Manager Naira Sultanyan introduced all projects in an entertaining and interactive way. She read out lines on impact that projects had and NGO representatives had to recognise their own projects. All NGOs received an appreciation certificate from the British Embassy.

From April 2008 till March 2009 the British Embassy Yerevan supported 26 projects in Armenia amounting to approximately 700,000 GBP. The preference was given to projects that are relevant to the Embassy's priority areas, address a justified need, and contain creative and innovative elements.
