DFID in Armenia

The Department for International Development (DFID) works to eliminate poverty and to encourage economic growth to benefit the poor by supporting projects tailored to specific country needs, which help communities to work together to raise living standards.

Since 1996, when the first country programme began, UK channelled development aid to Armenia through DFID Section in the British Embassy. In 2004, DFID drew up the Regional Assistance Plan 2004- 2007 for Central Asia, South Caucasus and Moldova, outlining priority areas of DFID assistance in the region.

In Armenia, DFID mainly worked at the national level and within the framework of the poverty reduction strategy contributing to the achievement of the MDGs. For more information on the Department for International Development, visit the DFID Main website. To access information on individual countries click on Country Profiles (in the upper left hand corner of DFID website) and select the country you want to know about.

DFID closed its Armenia office

The status of a lower middle income country (LMIC) that Armenia gained in early 2006, led DFID towards phasing out its bilateral programme from the country by the end of 2008.

To find out why the offices have closed, what DFID have been doing in these countries and how DFID will continue to be involved in Armenia, please read the DFID Armenia Graduation booklet: DFID and Armenia: Working together for development and change [PDF 686KB, new window].
