Age of Stupid: Yerevan premiere

Age of Stupid premiere in Yerevan

On October 26 the Age of Stupid film was screened in the biggest cinema hall in Yerevan in the framework of Sunchild Environmental film festival organised by a Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC). The British Embassy supported the screening.

The Age of Stupid is a powerful drama-documentary-animation hybrid which stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching archive footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance? This is a new documentary from the Director of “McLibel” and the Producer of the Oscar-winning “One Day in September”, Franny Armstrong.

In the opening speech before the film screening, HMA Charles Lonsdale said: "The views expressed in this film do not all reflect official policy of the UK government. But we fully support the film’s aim of raising awareness of climate change. A lot depends on governments, but it also needs people to take actions themselves – from turning down the heating in their homes and offices to recycling waste. And people need to make clear what action they expect of their governments".

"Climate change is happening and has been caused by human activity. And it is going to create challenges for all of us. It will mean more extreme weather – storms, hail and floods; disruption to water supplies; poor harvests; extinction of plant and animal species. Rising sea levels may not seem a problem for us here, in sight of Mount Ararat, but for some low-lying countries it means total devastation. So we want to see agreement in Copenhagen on action to limit global temperature increases to 2 degrees, beyond which the risks are predicted to become much greater", said the Ambassador.

SunChild Environmental Festival is a unique event and the only one of its kind in the South Caucasus region. The festival started on October 25th and will last until the 29th. For more information please visit www.sunchild.am.
